19th April Patrouille des Jeunes

A ski mountaineering race for young people aged 10 to 20 years on four varied and diverse courses in the domain.

The Patrouille des Jeunes 2024 (PdJ2024) will be held in Verbier during the same period as the legendary Patrouille des Glaciers (PdG).

On the programme, four varied courses adapted to the level of each category will be set up in a stunning natural setting between Les Ruinettes, Le Col de la Chaux and Verbier (Médran):

- Long course (U20) / 3 ascents / 3 descents / 1 bootpack / Elevation gain 1,070 m / Elevation loss 1,798 m

- Medium course (U18) / 3 ascents / 3 descents / 1 bootpack / Elevation gain 855 m / Elevation loss 1,535 m

- Short course (U16) / 2 ascents / 2 descents / 1 bootpack / Elevation gain 515 m / Elevation loss 1,198 m

- Discovery course 1 ascent / 2 descents / 1 bootpack / Elevation gain 280 m / Elevation loss 960 m

The discovery course will be open to all participants aged 10 to 20 years. It is considered more accessible due to its low technical difficulty. This is a wonderful opportunity to try out ski mountaineering and create wonderful memories of Verbier.

The most seasoned athletes will have the possibility to reach the legendary Col de la Chaux which is in the region of 3,000 metres of altitude, after 1,070 metres of a more strenuous ascent. All these courses will start from Les Ruinettes and cover the last section of the ‘long’ course, the Patrouille des Glaciers (PdG), so that the young people can experience the same thrills as the older participants. Note that the PdJ 2024 will also be the Swiss Youth Team Championship of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC).

The committee hopes to welcome nearly 250 patrols from Switzerland and abroad, in teams of two, competing in the mixed, women’s or men’s categories.
